Bruno Zocca

Bruno was born in Verona and studied illustration and graphic design at the ISIA in Urbino. He currently lives and works in Bologna. In 2014, his work was selected for the Illustrators Exhibition at the Bologna Children's Book Fair, where he won the Ars In Fabula Grant. His illustrations for Mio Nonno Gigante, written by Davide Calì, won the 2019 Children's Literature Prize. In 2023, Bruno was selected for the prestigious Sendak Fellowship art residency. Bruno has illustrated book covers and contributed illustrations to The New York Times. Since 2016, he has been a member of the art collective Ufficio Misteri.
He loves picture books, the drawings of Alfred Kubin, Buzzati, and Leo Longanesi; the colors of Beni Montresor; and all of William Steig's books.
When he’s not drawing, Bruno enjoys taking long walks through Bologna or up in the hills. As soon as he gets the chance, he goes to Sala Borsa, where there is a beautiful library of picture books. He just sits there and browses through them for a while. Bruno also enjoys cooking, watching movies, and silly TV shows.

His life motto:
Childhood is a complicated business. Usually, something goes wrong. — Maurice Sendak
