She was awarded the XXI Italian Andersen Prize for Best Illustrator, and her book Ferriera won Best Graphic Novel in 2015. In the same year, she and fellow author and illustrator Giancarlo Ascari formed a creative duo and began publishing books together: The Green Fingers of Monsieur Monet (Royal Academy of Arts, London, 2015), Yum!, Zip!, Gong! and Lalala! (Franco Cosimo Panini, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018). She co-illustrated with Ascari Cher Auteur, by Riccardo Bozzi, published in France by hélium editions and in Italy by Bompiani.
Since 2021 she formed another creative duo with the author Debora Vogrig, publishing Line and Scribble (Chronicle Books 2021) and Black and White (Eerdmans 2021). Pia creates her drawings using a black pen on white paper, and then digitally colors them. But she continues to think in black and white.
